Tianjin Economic-technological Development Area (abbreviated as TEDA) is one of the first national-level development areas in China and also the national development area with the largest economy and the highest level of export-oriented economy in China. It is the country's first one with a GDP exceeding 300 billion yuan. According to an interview with reporters, TEDA has made a positive transition and has achieved green development so as to achieve both "economic growth and environmental improvement".
In No. 2 Plant, Tianjin TEDA Thermal Power Plant, Chen Dejiang, Chairman of Tianjin TEDA Thermal Power Company Chairman, told reporters that with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and autumn and winter air pollution control measures in the surrounding area started, for the heating supplier enterprises, upgrade and reform of heating boilers is inevitable. Before the heating season, the company has successively completed the "coal reforming" project of Heat Plant No. 2 and Heat Plant No. 3, which will significantly reduce the use of coal and the discharge of pollutants during the heating season.
While the thermal power plant "replaces coal with gas", industrial enterprises will actively "turn waste heat into treasure." Cabot Chemical (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. is the largest carbon black production base in the world. Its General Manager Qiao Yanzhong told reporters that the company produces 550,000 tons of steam annually, of which over 60% is supplied to industrial parks. The Company reached a steam supply agreement with Changlu Hangu Salt Field at the beginning of this year and successfully achieved the goal of zeroing coal-fired boilers at Changlu Hangu Salt Field. As the first batch of carbon trading pilot enterprises in the country, at present, the company's greenhouse gas emission intensity is only 65% of the industry average. Some companies continue to reduce pollution through technological innovation. In the Gloria British Pharmaceutical Group (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., the reporter saw the staff work busy in tidy and clean workshops.
The relevant person in charge of TEDA's Administrative Committee said that after 30 years of construction, TEDA will optimize the industrial park layout, adjust the industrial structure, build a circular economic and industrial chain, improve the utilization efficiency of energy resources, intensify the prevention and control of pollution, strengthen the infrastructure and sharing of other aspects and vigorously promote its green development, which has made significant progress.
TEDA's GDP in 2016 accounted for one sixth of Tianjin's GDP. Its major indexes such as GDP and above-scale industrial output ranked the first among over 200 state-level development areas nationwide.
